This week, I continued working on the word clock frame and I was looking for a thank you gift for my English teacher. I liked how the coasters that I made came out and my family liked them, so I decided to design my teacher both a regular cup coaster and then an additional coaster that she could use for something bigger such as a candle or something.
On Monday, I started by trying to test cut the word clock in carboard using the inkscape files that I made last week. I spent a lot of time trying to find a piece of cardboard that was large enough for the file, but was unable to.
On Tuesday, I started remaking the inkscape files for the test cut of the word clock frame. The original files I made last week had cut the design in half so that it would be able to fit in the lasercutter. I wasn't able to find a piece of cardboard large enough for the cut, so I decided to cut the design down into a quarter because all I really need to see is if the measurements are correct and make sure the LED lights and letter blocks fit correctly in the frame.

On Wednesday, I started by making the coasters for my teacher in CAD. The coasters look the same in CAD, but one is about an inch larger in diameter than the other one. When I make the files in inkscape, they will also have different designs and engravings on the top. I was also able to find a piece of cardboard that fit the side, top, and back plate and cut those pieces out in cardboard. I didn't have enough time to find a piece that would fit the piece of the frame and the front piece, so I wasn't able to cut those pieces out.

On Thursday, I made the inkscape files for both of the coasters and added the designs for the engravings. I also found a piece of cardboard that could fit the test cut of the frame for the word clock, so I cut that out. I was only able to test if the LED fit.
