First blog post of 2026! This week I wanted to work on a birthday gift for my mom because her birthday is next Monday. I started off by looking online for some gifts ideas and inspiration. After i found something on Pinterest, I started coming up with my own kind of design of it. I started the design of the gift in CAD. The idea is it a big wooden letter or her initial. Along with the wooden initial, is smaller wooden letters laid across the top that spells out "Mom".

This is the first design I came up with.

I thought that the first design I came up with looked a little plain and boring. I decided to add little bits on the ends of the letter to make it look like a specific font. This is the final design of the gift.

After I finished the design in CAD, I made the files in Inkscape. I still though it looked a little plain, so I wanted to engrave something. I decided to engrave the word "mom" into each of the letter M's.

O Thursday, I was able to get all of the parts cut out and sanded. On Friday, I'll be able to glue the smaller letters on top of the letter N. The final product of this gift will have some pictures of my family spread out and attached to the letter N. I am also going to cut out and make her a card and I'm making her a new keychain because the one I made for her when I was younger has gotten old.
